What to Do at the World Series of Poker

If you and/or your family are fans of poker, there's no greater vacation than a trip to Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker, which in 2007 took place at the Rio hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, from June 1 to July 17. So once you get to the World Series of Poker, what exactly do you do?

Watch a WSOP Event:

You don't need to pay to watch a World Series of Poker event, although if you are not participating you will likely be directed to a viewing area. Spectators get pretty deep at the main event, but there are 55 events to watch, each one featuring some of the best players to ever play the game of poker. You may not get another opportunity to be this close to your favorite World Series of Poker stars, so take advantage of it. Not only is this a good venue for celebrity spotting, you may see a few hands that really teach you something about the game.

Play in a WSOP Event:

With 55 events available in 2007, and every poker game you can think of, from Deuce to Seven triple draw lowball to no-limit Texas hold'em, there's bound to be something for you. While the entry fees can get pretty steep, some are as low as $1,000, which is probably less than you would spend during a vacation anywhere else.

Play in a WSOP Satellite:

The 2007 World Series of Poker features $1060 single table satellites, $550 mega satellites of multiple tables, and $1060 mega satellites as well. All of these satellites provide you the opportunity to win a seat at the main event for a fraction of the cost. Many a pro poker superstar's career got started with a satellite at, for example, Bodog Poker Could you be the next Jamie Gold, Joe Hachem, or Greg Raymer?

Play in a Cash Game:

With all the poker players swarming to the Rio from everywhere in the world for this event, you can count on some of the most diverse and exciting cash poker games ever. Harrah's will have hundreds of tables available to accommodate all the action, which will allow you to enjoy the World Series of Poker experience without risking thousands.

Get Some Merchandise:

From July 5 to July 8, the Rio will present the free Poker Gaming Life Expo, which will feature a wide variety of poker related merchandise, including DVDs, clothes, and books, for you to peruse and enjoy.

Discover Las Vegas:

While the World Series of Poker may be the centerpiece of your trip, Las Vegas is virtual wonderland, with shows, shops, sights and sounds unlike anywhere else on earth. Feel free to take a few hours away from the felt to see and enjoy everything Las Vegas has to offer, especially you've never been there before.
